Archive and Architecture.
Since this is a virtual museum, the online archive allows a visitor to access all of its objects. There are no inaccessible storage basements and no walls between 'galleries' as there would be in a real museum. The archive is the museum, and as explained in the archive's Home page, the mode of presentation of its objects as alphabetical lists, accessible by name, keyword and category, allows a visitor to wander through the lists as virtual galleries.
A consequence of the archive system is that exhibitions, defined as organized multimedia presentations and displays of a selection of objects to tell a story, become museum objects themselves.
Keywords.
Keywords are used in the web version of the archive to gather together a collection as a group of objects that have something in common for the purposes of learning, research, or a special interest. A keyword can be used in this way to define a selection of objects as a special collection within the virtual museum.
The following two tables list the categories used to make lists of objects by-Category and by-Keyword.
